One Dead After Private Jet Crashes on Texas Highway in Laredo

LAREDO, Texas — One person was killed and five others were injured after a private jet crashed onto a highway in Laredo, Texas, late Tuesday night, according to local authorities.

The aircraft, identified as a Cessna Citation Latitude operated by NetJets, went down on Texas State Highway Loop 20 after diverting from its original route. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 10 p.m. local time.

Texas Plane Crash Leaves One Dead

The Cessna Citation Latitude was carrying six people when it crashed onto a roadway in Laredo.

Authorities confirmed that one person died in the accident, while the remaining five occupants were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Officials have not yet released the identity of the deceased victim, pending notification of family members.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones affected by the recent private jet crash,” said Victor Trevino in a statement.

Flight Diverted Before Crash

According to flight tracking data, the aircraft departed from San Jose del Cabo on Tuesday evening and was scheduled to fly to Austin.

The jet diverted to Laredo for reasons that have not yet been disclosed.

Flight tracking information showed the aircraft’s final recorded position over Bob Bullock Loop, part of Texas State Highway Loop 20, where the crash occurred.

Highway Closed Following Impact

Investigators said sections of Loop 20 remained closed Wednesday morning as emergency crews worked to clear debris and address a fuel spill.

Laredo Police Investigator Joe Baeza told reporters that portions of the aircraft remained on the roadway and that jet fuel contamination required extensive cleanup efforts.

“Loop 20 will be closed both north- and southbound at this intersection for a very long time,” Baeza said. “This is probably even going to bleed into the morning hours.”

Photos from the scene showed emergency personnel working around the wreckage as traffic was diverted from the affected area.

NetJets Acknowledges Incident

In a statement, NetJets confirmed that one of its aircraft was involved in the accident.

“We are aware of an event involving a NetJets aircraft in Laredo, Texas, and are working with authorities,” the company said.

The aircraft carried registration number N523QS, according to flight records.

Federal Investigation Underway

Federal agencies have launched an investigation into the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it is gathering information and will lead the investigation, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the aircraft to divert or crash.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also present at the scene, though officials have not indicated any evidence of criminal activity.

Authorities Seek Answers

The crash marks another high-profile aviation accident in the United States and is expected to draw significant scrutiny as investigators examine the aircraft, flight data and communications leading up to the incident.

Officials have not provided a timeline for when preliminary findings may be released.

For now, investigators remain focused on determining what caused the Texas plane crash and whether mechanical issues, weather conditions or other factors contributed to the fatal accident.
